Let’s take a look at test-wise results and how Nissan magnite faired in all:

Nissan Magnite Global NCAP Test 1: 2 Star Rating

Nissan Magnite Global NCAP Crash Test 2 Star Rating

In the first round of crash testing, the Nissan Magnite was evaluated with only two airbags and no electronic stability control (ESC). During the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test, the car scored 10.036 points. The driver’s chest protection was rated as weak, whereas the passenger benefited from good protection. Both occupants received good protection for their head and neck. There was marginal protection noted for the thighs, but the tibia and feet protection were considered adequate. The car’s bodyshell and footwell area were deemed stable, though a minor penalty was noted due to reinforcement inconsistencies. In the Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test, the Magnite achieved 14.454 points, offering good protection to the head, abdomen, and pelvis, and adequate protection for the chest. A side pole impact test was not conducted since the car lacked curtain airbags.

Child occupant protection in this configuration revealed a dynamic score of 14.59 out of 24, a CRS installation score of 3.80 out of 12, and no points in vehicle assessment. The 18-month-old dummy achieved good protection in the frontal test, but the 3-year-old dummy registered a poor result. However, both dummies earned full marks in the side impact scenario.

The second test incorporated significant safety upgrades: six airbags and ESC as standard. In the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test, the Magnite improved slightly, scoring 10.51 points. The protection for both the driver’s and passenger’s head and neck remained good. However, while the driver’s chest still received only a weak rating, the passenger’s chest was considered adequate. Knee protection remained marginal with adequate coverage of the tibia. The footwell area and bodyshell were again rated as stable, with the structure capable of enduring higher crash forces.

When subjected to the Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test, the car demonstrated strong performance, securing 16 points and providing good protection to all critical body regions. The vehicle also underwent the Side Pole Impact Test; chest protection was adequate, and other regions were protected well.

Child occupant protection results improved in this test, with a dynamic score of 20 out of 24, full marks for CRS installation (12 out of 12), and a vehicle assessment score of 4 out of 13. Both the 3-year-old and 18-month-old dummies scored full points in both frontal and side crash tests, highlighting enhanced safety for younger passengers.

Nissan Magnite Global NCAP Test 3: 5 Star Rating

For the final test, the Nissan Magnite benefited from even further improvements in its safety setup. The Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test saw a notable jump, with the car achieving 15.307 points. Both the driver’s and passenger’s head and neck were rated as good for protection. The driver’s chest rating improved from weak to good, the passenger’s chest remained adequate, and both occupants’ knees showed good protection, improving from their previously marginal ratings. Tibia protection was maintained at an adequate level. The bodyshell and footwell area continued to be judged stable.

In side impact assessments, the Nissan Magnite replicated its prior strong showing, scoring 16 points in the Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test and delivering comparable results in the Side Pole Impact Test to those seen in Test 2.

Child occupant protection, however, saw a slight decrease: the dynamic score was 15.64 out of 24, with CRS installation keeping a perfect 12 out of 12 and vehicle assessment rising to 6 out of 13. In the frontal crash, both the 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies lost some points, though they managed full marks in side crash scenarios, reflecting consistently robust side impact safety for children.

Test 2 vs Test 3: What were the major changes?

In comparing Tests 2 and 3 of the Nissan Magnite’s crash assessments, the most significant advancements were seen in adult occupant protection. Specifically, Test 3 delivered notable improvements in chest and knee safety for the driver, upgrading ratings from ‘weak’ and ‘marginal’ to ‘good’. Head, neck, and tibia protection remained consistently high in both evaluations, showcasing the model’s reliable safety performance in these areas. The structural integrity of the bodyshell and footwell was maintained as stable throughout all tests, underlining the vehicle’s robust build quality. These collective improvements in occupant safety directly contributed to Magnite’s achievement of the top 5-star rating for adult occupant protection in Test 3.

For child occupants, side impact results were virtually unchanged between the two tests, indicating enduring effectiveness of the vehicle’s safety features in such scenarios. However, frontal crash performance for children saw a decline in Test 3, resulting in a reduction of the child occupant protection (COP) rating from 4 stars in Test 2 to 3 stars in the final evaluation. This illustrates how incremental changes in crash results, even with structural enhancements, can influence child safety ratings.
